Chapter 35 – Heading Toward the Finish Line
When we arrived home after going out for supper with my parents, my phone rang. When I looked to see who was calling, I was surprised to see Jaxon’s name, so I answered it immediately and put it on speaker so Devin could hear.
“Hey, man, what’s up?”
“What’s up is that you’d better come to our house for a barbeque tomorrow night. You can go back to Fort Collins on Sunday instead of tomorrow, because Rory and Jaxon are looking forward to seeing you and Devin again.”
“So, you’re calling me from your house in Jamesville? I thought you guys had Spring Break last week.”
“We did, but Dad called us on Thursday and said that you and Devin were in Jamesville, so we came home for the weekend just so we could see you guys.”
I looked over at Devin and he nodded. “Ok, then we’ll change our plans and be there tomorrow night.”
“Great, because you two give better blow jobs than anyone else we’ve ever been with.”
“Then I hope you two have practiced up a bit, so you can return the favor,” I replied, just as I saw Devin smile.
“We have a little, but the other guys we were with didn’t do nearly as good a job as you guys, and the girls we’ve been with have been even worse.”
“Ok, then we’ll see you tomorrow night.”
“I can’t believe they came home just so we’d come to their house for a barbeque,” Devin said, since he had returned from going to the bathroom just as I was answering my phone.
“Yeah, Jaxon said he and Rory came home for the weekend, but I think it was more to get a decent blow job, rather than for a barbeque tomorrow night.”
“I’m glad they called, and it’s not a big deal if we leave Sunday morning instead.”
“Ok, we’ll tell my parents in the morning that we’re changing our plans, since they’ve gone up to their bedroom already.”
We stayed up a little longer and watched TV for a while before we also went upstairs and got ready for bed.
We woke up when we heard my mom call us down for breakfast, and when we got downstairs, we all sat down to eat.
“I fixed a big breakfast this morning, so eat up before you leave. There’s plenty to go around.”
“Thanks, but we changed our minds about leaving today. Jaxon called after we got home last night and told us that he and Rory came home for the weekend just to see us, so we talked it over last night and decided to leave tomorrow morning instead.”
“Great! I’m sure it will make Liam and his sons very happy to see you there.”
“You’d still better eat up,” Mom added, “because I don’t want to have all this food go to waste.”
“Don’t worry. We’ll polish off everything you and Dad don’t eat.”
In fact, we ate so much for breakfast that we didn’t want any lunch, so we didn’t eat again until we went to the Fitzpatrick’s house for the barbeque. “Man, I can’t believe you’re cooking outside, because it’s only 42 degrees (5.5 C) right now.”
“I know. My sons used to give me grief about it too, but I think the meat tastes a lot better when it’s cooked on a charcoal grill.”
“Come on, guys. Let’s go upstairs and chat until the food’s ready,” Jaxon urged.
“Yeah, there’s nothing to do down here until we’re called down to eat,” Rory added, and then he and Jaxon grabbed our arms and pulled us toward the staircase.
Once we got up to Rory’s room, since it was slightly larger than Jaxon’s room, they immediately dropped their pants and pushed boxer briefs down to their ankles before sitting on the bed. “I hope you don’t mind doing us first, but we got really horny thinking about you guys coming here tonight.”
“Nah, we don’t mind,” Devin answered, and then he immediately went down on Rory.
“Watcha waiting for?” Jaxon whined after he saw that Devin was already taking care of his brother. “We probably don’t have much time until Dad finishes grilling the meat.”
“Then I hope you cum quickly.”
“Don’t worry. Rory and I are so horny that it won’t take long before we shoot. We’ll come up here again after we eat, and then we’ll do you guys and you can do us again too.”
Jaxon was correct and it didn’t take him and Rory very long before they blasted off. And before they had time to clean up and pull up their boxer briefs and fasten their pants, we heard their mom calling for us to come downstairs and eat.
As soon as Jaxon and Rory were ready, we headed downstairs to join the others and we sat down with them to eat. “I hope you boys are hungry, because I grilled plenty of chicken breasts so you can have seconds, because I know how much you can pack away.”
“Yeah, we skipped lunch today because Mom fixed a large breakfast, since she thought we were leaving, so that won’t be a problem,” I replied.
“Great, and my wife fixed a garden salad for each of us and all you have to do is choose the dressing you want to use. She also fixed a large bowl of potato salad and another with macaroni and cheese, since our sons asked her to fix that too.”
“Sounds good to me,” Devin responded as we began to fill our plates.
After we started eating, I decided to compliment Mr. Fitzpatrick. “This chicken is delicious! It’s nice and juicy and I love the barbecue sauce you used on it. What brand is it?”
“It’s my own recipe.”
“But I don’t remember tasting anything like this before at your other cookouts.”
“I know, because I didn’t start playing around trying to come up with a better barbecue sauce until after our last cookout together. After several tries, I finally settled on this one.”
“Several tries?”
“Yes, my wife and I taste tested my other attempts, but they just weren’t exactly what I wanted, so I kept experimenting until I came up with this recipe. I think I’ll try to pitch it to one of those big companies that make barbecue sauce, like Stubb’s, Kraft, and Bullseye. Maybe I’ll make enough money to finance my retirement and pay off the loans our sons have taken out to pay for their college education.”
“If the CEOs at those companies have any brains, they’ll be happy to buy the recipe from you.”
“I sure hope you’re right.”
After we finished eating, Mrs. Fitzpatrick made a comment. “I made a chocolate cake for dessert, but I think we’ll wait about an hour before we have it, so the meal has time to settle a bit first.”
“It might take a little longer than that, after all the food the four of us just ate,” Devin responded.
“In the meantime, let’s go back upstairs so we can chat about the fact that you guys are graduating from college this year and what you plan to do next,” Rory suggested.
“Yeah, let’s go upstairs,” Jaxon urged, so we excused ourselves and followed the brothers up to Rory’s room again.
As soon as we arrived there, Rory shut the door and Jaxon spoke. “Hurry up and get ready, because we want our second turn before Mom calls us downstairs for dessert.”
“But we’ve got plenty of time,” I replied.
“Yeah, but you guys take a lot longer before you cum than we usually do, and we’ll last longer this time as well, so we can’t waste any time, just in case.”
“Ok,” I said, as Devin and I unfastened our pants and let them fall to the floor, and then we lowered our boxer briefs and sat on the bed.
Jaxon and Rory got right to work on us, like two kids attacking an ice cream cone. They were right and they had improved some more since our last time together, which was a definite plus, so Devin and I laid back and enjoyed their ministrations.
Seeing they’d both improved since we were last together, it didn’t take us quite as long to bust a nut this time. And once we’d spewed our load, they gave us a little time to recuperate before they started urging us to return the favor.
We did what they wanted, and just as they’d warned us, they took much longer to unload this time. In fact, they’d just barely had time to shoot their loads before we heard their mom call us. “Ok, boys, come on downstairs, because we’re going to have dessert now.”
“Ok, we’ll be right down,” Jaxon yelled, since he’d recuperated sooner than his brother.
They hurriedly pulled up their pants and boxer briefs again, and then we headed downstairs to have cake with our parents.
“Wow, this is really good, Mrs. Fitzpatrick. Did you try something new with this too?”
“I’m surprised you noticed, but I did. I used a different chocolate when making the cake this time and ordered some Callebaut dark chocolate. I decided to try it after I read an article which stated the brands that contain a larger percentage of cocoa solids and cocoa butter, especially those with over 70%, will result in a more flavorful chocolate cake.”
“It definitely worked, because I can taste the difference.”
When we finished eating the cake, Jaxon and Rory made each of us a mixed drink, and then we went in to chat with our parents until it was time to leave.
“We’d better get going,” Dad said after checking his watch, “because the boys want to get up early to start in the morning for the drive back to Fort Collins.”
“Yes, that’s probably a good idea,” Liam replied, “because our sons will also want to leave early for their trip back to Boulder.”
“We had a great time and the entire meal was delicious,” Mom followed. “I want to thank you for inviting us and we’ll have to do this at our house next time.”
“It was our pleasure to have you over,” Mrs. Fitzpatrick responded, “and doing something similar at your place sounds nice.”
“Yeah, we can have a real cookout this summer,” I added.
“And we’ll talk Dad into having another cookout here once he’s opened the pool for the summer,” Rory added.
“Yes, we’ll definitely do that,” his father concurred. “I’ll check with you at work to see when it will be a good time for you, once the boys have all returned home from college.”
“We’ll be going on a trip with our parents shortly after we graduate,” I stated, “but we should be back home by the first of June. And that reminds me of something else. You’re all going to be invited to attend Devin’s and my wedding, which will be held either the second or third Saturday in June. We won’t know which one until my mom finds out when we can reserve the church for the ceremony. She also has to arrange for a place where we can have the reception, so it might be best if you had your next cookout in July.”
“How about the Fourth of July weekend,” Mr. Fitzpatrick followed.
“Devin’s parents will be with us that weekend,” Ded explained, “because we usually have a cookout at our house for both families before we go to watch the fireworks. Why don’t all of you join us at our house for that cookout, and then we’ll all go watch the fireworks together afterward.”
“That sounds like a great idea, and then we’ll have a cookout here the following day, and you can bring Devin’s parents with you,”
“Ok, that sounds perfect,” Dad agreed.
“Devin, you’ll have to tell your parents to bring their bathing suits, if they want to take a dip in the pool with the rest of us,” Liam replied.
“And it will give us more time to spend together,” Jaxon whispered, while nudging me in the ribs.
“Yes, it definitely will,” I confirmed.
We then said goodbye to the Fitzpatrick and thanked them again for the great time and wonderful meal before we made the trip home. When we arrived there, we all went inside and almost immediately headed up to our rooms, since we were all tired and ready to turn in. My parents typically go to bed early, so they were already past their bedtime, and Devin and I were doing it so we could get plenty of rest before our trip back to Fort Collins.
I set the alarm on my phone for 7:00 so we could have breakfast with my parents first. We didn’t have to get up earlier than that, since we’d already loaded our things in Devin’s SUV during the day on Friday, seeing we thought we’d be leaving Saturday morning as we’d initially planned. We’ll just have to pack up the few remaining things we left out for our trip back, since we dug through my closet for the clothes that we’d worn tonight.
Just as I expected, Mom woke up early and prepared another huge breakfast for us. This one consisted of French toast, scrambled eggs, home fries, sausage links, and bacon, along with a small glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee. As we were eating, Devin asked Dad a question.
“Did you find out if you’d won anything on the Powerball or Lucky for Life tickets?”
“Actually, I did, but I forgot to mention it to you. I’m glad that you decided to ask me about it before you left.”
“Well, how much did you win?”
“We didn’t win either of the top two prizes on either one, but we did win something. Devin picked four numbers and the Powerball, and that was worth $500. And the multiplier was two, so it upped the total to $1,000.”
“Well, that’s better than nothing,” Devin responded.
“In deed it is. And Michael got four numbers correct on the Lucky for Life ticket, and he also picked the right lucky ball number as well, and that one was worth $3,000.”
“Damn, we both picked five correct numbers, but yours was worth more than mine,” Devin whined.
“Unfortunately, you didn’t have any control over which multiplier was chosen,” Dad responded. “If it had been five, then you would have come closer with $2,500, although if the multiplier chosen was ten, then your ticket would have been worth more than Michael’s ticket.”
“Yeah, I wish that would have happened,” Devin said while glaring at me.
“We still did ok,” Dad stated. “All together it came to $9,000 on the three games, and I’d say that’s damn good for a $9.00 investment.”
“Yeah, we did pretty good,” I concurred.
When we finished eating, we waddled upstairs to brush our teeth, and then we grabbed the remaining items and packed them in the smaller overnight duffels that we owned. Once that was taken care of, we carried them downstairs and said goodbye to Mom and Dad before going out to the SUV.
The drive back seemed to be a competition between the drowsy feeling we had from eating such a large breakfast and the stimulating effects of the two cups of coffee that we each drank. In order to prevent the drowsy feeling from winning out, we began chatting in order to tip the scales in favor of the caffeine. When we couldn’t think of anything else to talk about, we turned the radio on and found a station that played mostly upbeat rock and roll songs, and we turned up the radio so it was much louder than usual. We also stopped at the diner, but only so we could stretch our legs by walking around a bit before changing drivers, and then we started the final leg to the house. Eventually we made it back to Fort Collins without any catastrophic incidents, and that included not running into Louella.
As soon as the SUV was parked in the driveway, we carried our things inside and collapsed on the sofa. After a couple of minutes, we both drifted off into an unplanned nap that lasted about an hour. Once we’d both awakened from this brief hiatus, we agreed to go to the hunting camp for a little exercise, which we hoped would prevent the large breakfast from turning into unwanted fat.
Since Devin had driven the last leg of the trip to Fort Collins, I offered to drive to the hunting camp, and just as I was turning onto the path that led back to the cabin, I saw flashing lights in the rearview mirror. It seemed that a sheriff’s deputy had observed us as the SUV turned in here and decided to follow us to see what we were up to. I told Devin to sit still and not get out, and I lowered my window, since the deputy was walking up to my side of the SUV.
“Didn’t you boys see the posted signs when you pulled in here?”
“Of course we did, but we’ve got permission from the owner to be here,” Devin replied before I had a chance to speak. “He’s a good friend with our grandfather and he’s allowing us to come here for walks whenever we want. If you’ll allow me to reach for my wallet, I’ve got a notarized note from the owner stating that information.”
“Ok, but do it very slowly.”
Devin then pulled out his wallet and unfolded a paper he kept there, and then he reached across me to hand it to the deputy. After the deputy read the information, he responded.
“Do you boys have any identification with you?”
“We have our student IDs from Colorado State University, as well as our driver’s licenses.”
“Your driver’s licenses will be sufficient.”
After Devin handed the Deputy his ID, I told the Deputy that I needed to reach for my wallet so I could take out my ID, and he told me the same thing that he’d told Devin. After I’d handed it to him, he looked at our faces to make certain that we were the person the license had been issued to. He also checked our names against the names on the note to make sure they all matched up.
After doing all of that, he took our licenses and the note back to his vehicle, and we assumed he was going to radio the information to the dispatcher. That person would probably use their digital resources to confirm that we had no outstanding warrants. They might have even called the owner of the hunting camp to confirm that he was the one who wrote the note that we’d showed the deputy.
“Ok, this all seems to be in order,” he said when he returned. “I hope you’re not upset that I checked you out, but I know the owner and I’m aware that he has trouble getting around and doesn’t come out here any longer.”
“No, we’re not upset, because we know that you’re only doing your job, and we’re glad that you’re protecting the owner’s interest. We’ll be sure to mention it the next time we chat with him.”
The Deputy then got in his patrol car and did a ‘K’ turn so he could pull out on the roadway, rather than backing out into traffic. As soon as he was out of sight, I turned to Devin and spoke.
“That was another close call, and when the hell did you get a notarized note from the owner?”
“When Gramps came here to play Santa, shortly after we started coming here. He and Pops stopped to check in with their old friend when they were on one of their hunting trips that fall, which occurred shortly after we asked them to get permission for us to come here. While they were chatting with the owner, they realized we might need a note to prove we had permission to be at the hunting camp, since it was posted. After their friend wrote the note, they drove him to a place where he could have it notarized, because they thought it would look more official if it had a legal seal on it. Gramps gave it to me when he came to Fort Collins for the Christmas visit to the children’s ward at the hospital.”
“Damn, it’s a good thing they did that, but I don’t have a note.”
“That’s because both of our names are on this one. The owner asked Pops if he thought we’d both need a note, but Pops told him that we’d always be together, so one note would suffice.”
“Ah, I’m glad you had it with you, and I’m also glad we hadn’t started getting undressed and transitioning yet. That would have been impossible to explain.”
“Yeah, it would’ve complicated the situation.”
Once we were ready, we peeked out the narrow gap as we opened the door to make sure there was no one else around when we exited the cabin. As soon as we were sure that we were alone and the deputy hadn’t returned, Devin transition into Bear and then we stepped outside. I quickly put the padlock into the hasp and locked the door, and then I hid the key and transitioned into Buck. Now that we were both dogs, we raced down the trail and headed toward the meadow, and then we chased each other around the area that was still blanketed in snow. We continued doing that for nearly an hour before we became too exhausted, and then we made our way back to the cabin so we could transition, get dressed, and return to the house.
When we arrived there, we went inside and got a drink, and then we rested until it was time to walk to the dining hall for supper. The place was packed, since just about everyone had returned by now, and we chatted with a few of our friends while we were there. That included the other guys who’d been part of the various stakeouts, and we were all pleased that those guys had finally been caught.
We also ran into the guys we went to the football games with, so we decided to tell them our big news. “Mac and I have decided to get married this summer.”
“Awesome!” they replied in unison. “Have you set a date yet?” Andy Mullaly asked.
“We’re planning to hold the wedding on the second or third Saturday in June, but it all depends on the availability of the church and a place to hold the reception.
“We all knew you two would be getting married, so congratulations,” Jason Fawcett added.
“Are we going to be invited?” Hunter Aguero followed.
“Sure, if you want to come, because the wedding will be in Jamesville. You’ll also be able to bring a date, if you want.”
“That’s even better, but will there be an open bar?”
“We haven’t worked out all of the details yet, and that would depend on where we hold the reception. If you’re interested in being there, just email me with your address and if you’re bringing a date, because my mom is making all of the arrangements for us.”
I then gave my cell number to whoever didn’t already have it, and they congratulated us again, before they went about their business.
When we got back to the house, we gathered up the things that we’d need for the next day and stuffed them into our backpacks, and then we sat down and merely looked at each other for a while. Eventually, Devin spoke.
“This has been a very interesting weekend,” he stated, and I nodded in agreement.
After that, we talked about the major projects that we had coming due in a few weeks, and {{anchor|Hlk219153795}} then we commiserated with each other about how much work the projects would entail. This was going to be a very difficult homestretch before graduation.
We decided to turn in early again, and after performing our nightly ablutions, we slid between the sheets and cuddled as we prepared to fall asleep. We wanted to be well rested for the return to classes, since this semester would play a big role in whether we’d have any chance at becoming valedictorian of our particular school.
We got up at our regular time the next morning and headed over to the dog park. I was eager to see Preston, because I wanted to tell him about the wedding.
“It’s nice to see you this morning,” Preston greeted me.
“And it’s nice to see you as well, and I have something special to tell you. Devin and I have agreed to get married after we graduate and before we start looking for jobs.”
“Congratulations! You make a wonderful couple and I know you’ll be very happy together. Will I be getting an invitation.”
“Absolutely, and you can also bring a date, if you want.”
“Well, I’m not currently seeing anyone, but who knows what may happen before then.”
“Just email me your address and I’ll have my mom mail you an invitation with all of the details. The wedding will be in Jamesville on either the second or third Saturday in June.”
“I take it you haven’t finalized things yet.”
“No, and my mom is making all the arrangements, so she’s checking into the availability of the church and a place to hold the reception. There will only be twenty-five or thirty people there, but we’ll include all of the details on the invitation. We only made this decision during Spring Break.”
“Well, I’m happy for both of you. I feel very close to you boys and we’ve had a lot of good times together. I enjoyed the Thanksgiving you arranged to hold for me, and I appreciated that you let me attend the football games with you and your friends. I even remember how well you two performed at the Halloween Talent Show. You were so good and pulled it off so effectively that I momentarily wondered if possibly you were both shapeshifters.”
“Oh, come on! You didn’t really think that, did you?” I replied while trying to maintain my composure.
“Only for a few seconds, since you did such a fantastic job. Don’t forget, I’m an anthropologist and I’m aware of the many stories throughout history that tell about people with such abilities, and there’s a chance that those stories might have been true. The thing is, even though I considered it briefly, in your case I’ve decided that you were merely like a couple of fantastic magicians who pulled off a marvelous illusion.”
“Thanks, we appreciate that,” I responded as my heartrate slowly returned to normal. I’m glad Preston doesn’t have an extraordinary sense of hearing or he might have picked up on my heart rapidly beating in my chest.
Now that I’d dodged a bullet, Preston and I spent an enjoyable hour chatting, while Bear, Bailey, and Finn raced around doing all sorts of things. This included chasing the tennis ball and Frisbee that we’d throw for them to fetch, and when the hour was up, I said goodbye to him and we left.
When we got back to the house, I told Devin about my conversation with Preston. “He really said that?” Devin screeched.
“Yes, but later he said he now realizes that we were merely two very accomplished magicians who’d pulled off a marvelous illusion.”
“Damn, I’m certainly glad to hear that or we might have to kill him, or at least remove his name from the invitation list.”
After that, we slipped on our backpacks and walked to the dining hall for breakfast, and then we headed to our first class.
