The Carrington Event of September 1-2, 1859, was a large Coronal Mass Ejection which intersected the orbit of Earth and caused telegraph wires to spark, catch fire and burn. Many operators were injured by the surge of electricity and in some cases, they were killed. Their equipment caught fire. The telegraph lines were rendered mostly inoperative. What if that happened today and it went on for many more days instead of 1 or 2? What if this event was also many times more powerful? With how much the people of today rely on technology to communicate, to do their jobs, to travel, and in some cases to exist, what would that mean to everyone? What would happen to a world so heavily integrated with computers and electricity, that suddenly lost it all? What would that world be like?
