Rick Beck does not write fluffy bunny stories. At times, they are gritty and very realistic. Yet they are always about love. Many of his stories are about the struggles we gay folk have had in times past. Rick is a terrific writer and knows how to pull your emotional strings.
The young half-breed sat on the front porch after supper on his 14th birthday. He had a date with that mountain out there in the distance. It wasn't exactly clear to him how he would prove he was a man to his Paw. He'd been pondering on it a spell. He would need to leave the cabin in the valley by the river that was the only home he'd ever known. He would leave to prove himself. Once he saw that Hawkin' rifle he got for his birthday, he knew what he would do. He had a man's rifle now and he was going to shoot him a griz.
