Authors note: Shadow Warriors is an interlude between Chapters 8 and 9 of Twilight’s Last Gleaming; Book 3 of the Dawn’s Early Light Saga in the Revolutions Universe. This story is not written to stand on its own and if you find yourself here first I would suggest starting with Chapter 1 of Dawn’s Early Light and reading the whole Saga. Chronologically Shadow Warriors starts right before Thanksgiving 2012

Admiral Norris sat and stared at the satellite images from cities across the country. Some of them were weeks old. He dropped the pictures on his desk and leaned back. The lack of intelligence was going to be their downfall. How the fuck did they do this before satellites? He smiled, sat up and picked up the phone on his desk. “Myers get me Payne now…. Yes, I know what time it is and I don’t give a damn, drag his ass out of bed and bring him here in his skivvies if you have to.” He hung up the phone, took out a notepad and started scribbling notes. He was on his third page when the door opened and Commander Myers showed Payne in.

Norris looked up at them “I am glad she gave you time to dress.”

“Sir?”

“Nevermind. Myers thank you. Sorry if I was harsh.”

Myers smiled “Not a problem, sir.” She started to exit the room and halfway out she jokingly said under her breath. “I am used to it by now.”

Norris just smiled and shook his head. “Sit down Payne.” Norris pointed to the chair across from him. “You are my Chief Intelligence Officer, right.”

“Well… Yes sir.”

“Then why the fuck don’t I have any fucking intelligence on what the fuck is happening inside Ashwood held areas.” Norris held his hand up to stop Payne from responding. “I will tell you why. We have no fucking human intel. Digital Surveillance is great and all, but it should only be used to confirm what Human intel gives. Using Digital Surveillance without pinpointing it is like using a leaf blower to find a needle in a haystack. Human intel is like using a magnet.”

Payne swallowed hard. “Sir Naval Intelligence is almost all Digital, we rely on CIA, FBI and NSA to do Humint.”

“But there are no alphabet soups anymore, Payne. We need to develop our own intel.”

Payne smiled. “Sir, you do know I was trained by Task Force 157 right?”

“That’s the military attache group?”

“Yes sir. The attache’s were all very overt. The rest of us not so much.”

“Ok we need to get Task Force 157 back in action.”

“We don’t have access to any assets. Sir it will take years to develop contacts and start getting information.”

“We have contacts already… Well Brett Gibson does.”

Payne leaned back and smiled. “This could work.”

“What do you need?”

“First a secure facility away from prying eyes.”

“Done, just went to look at Lieutenant Peters training facility on Duck Island this morning. Plenty of room and Peters is trustable. He will keep his recruits away from our area.”

“Ok, I need a day or two to build a team. People I trust but can spare here. We are going to need to send a contact team into target locations.”

“Non military, we could go with a couple of the cops in Maine or from Daytona.”

“My team has already created files on those guys, not much detail but it’s a good start.”

Norris handed the notepad to Payne. “Here are my ideas. For now, I want this classified and encrypted with a code word. No one and I mean no one is to know about this unless I approve it first. Generate the code and I will control it.”

Payne looked uncomfortable. “Sir, this may be illegal. We are starting an Intelligence operation with no oversight and not even the President knows.”

Norris leaned back. “The DOD charter does allow for the individual services to conduct their own intel ops. It’s the oversight that’s the issue. Hold on a sec.” Norris quickly started typing something on his tablet. When he was finished the printer whirred to life. Norris stood, grabbed the sheet and handed it to Payne. “Here are your orders in writing. Should there be any trouble in the future this is all on me.”

“Understood sir. I will get started right away and will have a list of resources and personnel by the end of the day.”

Lieutenant Perez knocked on the hotel door and waited. A young man opened the door and just stared for a second. He looked over his shoulder. “Brett there is a hot Army guy here.”

“Well shit, Kyle tell him to get in here and let’s start the strip show.” Brett shouted from inside the room.

Lieutenant Perez laughed. “Admiral Norris here to see Brett Gibson, if he is available.”

Brett rolled his wheelchair around the corner. “I am available for Aggy any time. Please come in.”

Perez and another soldier entered the room and looked around for a quick second, while Brett and Kyle stood off to the side. The Lieutenant nodded to the other soldier who he stepped into the hall and waved Admiral Norris in.

Norris walked in and smiled at Brett and Kyle. “Sorry about that guys, my security team has been a little on edge lately.”

Brett chuckled. “Aggy, please feel free to parade hot guys in uniform through my room anytime you want.”

Norris laughed. “Haven’t changed a bit you little smartass.” He looked over at Kyle. “How are you son? Leg looks like it’s healing pretty well.”

“Still a little sore sir but it’s getting better everyday.”

“Good to hear, so how did you two end up in a room together and how did you get one of the suites.”

Brett smiled his most charming smile. “Why Admiral sir, a gentleman never kisses and tells.”

Norris just stared at him. “Brett you are no gentleman. But I really don’t want to know. Brett I need your help with something. Kyle I am sorry to ask but can you excuse us for a second.”

Brett held up his hand. “Kyle stays, Aggy. He knows everything about me and I am not going to start hiding stuff from him now.”

Norris looked at Brett and then at Kyle. “I was going to say something about protocols but screw it, none of this is within protocols. Fine, Kyle grab a seat. I have a feeling Brett is going to get you all tangled up in this anyway, Lieutenant Perez step outside please.”

The Lieutenant snapped to attention and quickly stepped into the hallway.

“Brett, we are planning some major offensive action in some major cities.” Both of their eyes opened up really wide. “We have been working hard on developing some good intel but we have no one on the ground. We need information that will help us catch the enemy with their pants down”

Brett chuckled. “I always like catching someone with their pants down.”

Kyle playfully slapped his arm.

Norris just shook his head and continued. “I need you to put me in contact with whoever you can that can help us get eyes and ears on the ground.

Brett just stared at him thinking. “It’s possible Aggy but there is only one way it will happen. I need to go to them.”

“NO!” Kyle and Norris both practically shouted.

Brett rolled his chair around the sofa to the center of the sitting room. “I can give you a bunch of bull about my contacts not trusting your people and that’s true, but you’re smart Aggy, you would figure out how to get around that. What you can’t get around is these kids are not contacts to me they are my family and if I am going to endanger their lives then I am going to be there on the ground and make sure they are protected.”

Norris sighed and leaned back in his chair. “Brett you’re still in a fucking wheelchair.”

“I can wear the blade prosthetics for three to four hours a day. I am able to take care of myself and let’s face it me moving around the streets of a major city in a wheelchair is gonna be a lot less suspicious than a fucking Navy SEAL Team, SIR.”

Norris held up his hand. “Brett relax. You’re right, I don’t have to like it but you’re right.”

Kyle stood up “Absolutely not.”

Norris and Brett both paused and looked at Kyle. “You can’t do this Brett, I will lose my fucking mind while you’re gone.”

Brett smiled at him. “No you won’t, because you’re coming along.”

Norris’s head shot back over to Brett. “What?”

“It’s not negotiable Admiral. Yes, I can take care of myself but it would be easier with someone I trust to help me. Kyle has been everything to me over the last couple weeks and I need him.”

Norris just stared at Brett and Kyle for a minute. “Ok, no promises about either of you going in or doing anything more than background work. But Brett, you’re the team Commander and if that is what you want to do then the only person that can override you is me. Deal?”

Brett smiled. “Deal.”

Norris stood up. “Pack your bags, the chopper will be here in an hour to bring you in.”

Brett smirked, “You knew I was going to say yes.”

Norris just smiled and walked out.

The chopper landed and the crew chief and Kyle helped Brett out. They looked around and noticed Lieutenant Payne walking toward them “Welcome to Duck Island. Let’s get going to your barracks where we can drop off your gear and get you settled in. Then you will be escorted to the command center. This will be your home for as long as it’s needed. Lieutenant Peters converted the island into a training center and his company of recruits and Cadre provide security on the island. Make yourselves at home. We will meet again at the command center in thirty minutes.”

They loaded their gear on the humvees and rode silently. The drivers never said a word until they approached a gated fence. The driver beside Brett looked over to him. “Sir this is your secure area. I am Corporal Snyder and the other driver is Private Tran. We will be staying in the building next to yours, anytime you need to go anywhere on the island we will take you. We will also be available to get you anything you need. We are assigned to you sir.”

Brett looked over at him. “Thank you Corporal. I am not sure what we need at this point but I am sure we will find out soon enough.”

The corporal smiled but didn’t say anything more until they pulled up to a small square two story building.

“This is your new home.”

Corporal Snyder started to gather their belonging and carry them inside. They walked through the front door and noticed a wide open rec room with pool tables and large screen TV. Across the room was a giant commercial kitchen. In the kitchen was a female soldier unpacking boxes. “That’s Sergeant Janet Kwon, she is your supply, cook and self defense expert. Kwon the rest of the team is here.”

She looked up. “Well don’t just stand there get your bags up to your rooms. Snyder, you and Tran help them get settled in. The rest of the team will be back from the sniper range any minute now.”

Snyder looked over at Brett. “The stairs are at the back. We are looking for a way to install an elevator sir.”

Brett looked down at the blades on his legs. “Tell whoever to not bother with the elevator. I better get used to these.”

“Understood sir. Kwon will have some drinks and stuff ready for you before you head over to command. Command is the building directly across from us. The training area is directly behind us. We start training first thing tomorrow. We have already begun training and testing your team.”

Brett looked over at Snyder. “Nunez and Mendoza? I have seen their files. Are they as good in real life as they are on paper.”

Snyder smiled. “Better sir.”

“Snyder call me Brett and this is Kyle. We are not used to the whole sir thing and let’s face it, we are paper pushers and while you may be acting as a driver errand boy, you are far from a paper pusher.”

Corporal Snyder cocked his head, smiled and looked at Brett. “Sir, I just follow orders.”

Brett smiled. “Synder, don’t bullshit me, first lesson of working with me. You are here to be our personal security and that includes making sure we don’t run or try to turn on the Admiral.” He held his hand up to prevent Snyder from talking. “Snyder, you favor you left arm slightly. My guess is a combat wound. You are wearing the uniform of an Army Corporal but your military protocol is slightly off, you referred to the Sergeant over there by her last name only. A Corporal does not refer to a Sergeant by anything other than her rank. So you are not Army. As a matter of fact, you are not military at all. The way you are wearing your gun belt lower on your hips, means you’re not used to wearing a gun around your waist any more. Your in your late 20’s and you have a very inquisitive eye. Based on your accent you’re from New York City. Snyder, if that is your name, you are a NYPD Detective.”

Snyder stood up and laughed. “They told me you were good.”

Brett smiled. “The best. Now if you don’t mind would you show us to our room.”

“Will the two of you be sharing a room?”

“Of course. Why, you want to join in on the fun?”

Snyder laughed. “A little too young and a little too male for my taste. Let’s get you upstairs boss.”

Kyle glared at Brett. “If you hit on every member of the team, I will kick those blades out from under you. I am sure Sergeant Kwon would be happy to pick your sorry ass off the floor.”

Brett smiled. “See how he treats me? Come on, let’s go find out where we are sleeping and get back down here so we can go see this mysterious command center.”

They headed up the stairs and Snyder opened the first door on the right. “This is your room, you have a small kitchenette but of course most meals will be served downstairs. The bathroom is through that private door. The island was originally designated to be a National Park and this building would have held the Park rangers. We didn’t have to do much to make it accommodate you. We are looking for someone we can trust to come in and make it a bit easier for you to get around.”

“I will be fine. Don’t waste resources.”

“You got it boss. The rest of the team will meet you downstairs in about fifteen minutes.”

Kyle smiled. “Thank you for your help Snyder.”

Brett and Kyle quickly settled in and explored their room. It was a very basic one room suite with a sitting area including a large screen tv. Kyle turned it on and the only thing they could get was BBC and CTV. There was a list of DVDs they could grab from the rec room downstairs as well.

After a few minutes of exploring, they both left the room and headed back down to the main floor. When they reached the bottom of the stairs they stopped. A group of four guys, two older and two in their teens were sitting around the center table laughing.

Brett just stood there smiling and waiting for them to notice he and Kyle were there. Finally one of the teens looked up. “Well son of a bitch. Shortstop.” He jumped up and ran over to Brett and pulled him into a hug.

Brett hugged him back. “Ryan this is Kyle.”

Ryan stepped back and looked at Kyle. “You really putting up with this freak.”

Kyle smiled. “At least until something better comes along.”

Brett looked shocked. “Hey!”

Ryan laughed. “Come on, meet the rest of the team.”

He led them over to the table where everyone had stood to meet them. “This is Juan and Carlos, they are both Daytona PD SWAT. This is Blake, he doesn’t talk much but has been a badass in training.”

Blake shook his hand. “Just doing what I was sent here to do, sir.”

“Don’t call me sir, ever. Listen up folks all references to military formality need to go out the window. The only time you call me sir is if I am having sex with you and I am being the dominant one.” He wagged his eyebrows at Blake.

Blake just cocked his head to the side. “God help us, it’s Juan 2.0”

Brett ignored him and shook Juan and Carlo’s hands. “Well it looks like the gang’s all here. We have to be in the command center in a few more minutes.”

Juan sat down. “You mean we are finally going to learn what this is all about?”

Brett sat down across from him. “You guys haven’t been briefed yet?”

They all shook their heads.

“Well shit.” Brett looked at all of them. “Do you realize what is happening? You all have seen those movies about secret government spy teams? There is no CIA, no FBI or NSA. There is no Humint and Norris sees the void. We are starting Admiral Norris’s spy circle gentlemen and make no mistake about this, the six of us are going to be glued to each other for the foreseeable future. We are going to have to do things that no one is going to want to know about. Admiral Norris and his people will stay so far away from us you will feel like we are cut off from the world. But know this, we are the true warriors. We will be the ones that no one ever talks about, but knows we are standing there, in the shadows, ready to do whatever dirty work needs to be done. There won’t be any speeches about us, no one will praise us in public and pin medals on our chests. Gentlemen, we are the United States’ newest spies. Get used to it. We are the shadow warriors. Wars are not won with Knights in shining armor galloping across the battlefield on a gleaming white horse. Wars are won by people like us. Now that you know, you have a choice to make, right now. Either you walk across that street with us and become a shadow warrior or you stay behind. No shame here. If you stay behind I will make sure you are returned to your old duties. But make no mistake. If you chose to go, there is no turning back.”

He stood up and started to walk to the door. He didn’t look back but felt Kyle’s hand in his. He whispered. “How many?”

Kyle smiled. “All of them.”

They walked into the three story building and two guards inside the entrance snapped to attention. Lieutenant Payne was standing there waiting for them. “Gentlemen, good of you to be on time.”

Brett looked at his watch. “You told us thirty minutes, technically we are two minutes early.”

Payne just smiled. “Follow me please.”

He walked down a corridor, stopped at a double door and used a keycard to enter. The doors swung open to reveal the command center. The center of the room was dominated by six computer terminals facing one large screen. Currently the screen showed a map of a city all of them recognized. There were what appeared to be unit markers all over the map. Between the computer consoles manned by what appeared to be Navy personnel, there were chairs and tables set up as a briefing area. The group just stood there staring until they heard a cough off to the left.

Admiral Norris stepped out of the shadow and walked over to them. “Glad to see everyone is here.”

Brett chuckled. “Here and accounted for, Admiral.”

Norris just shrugged. “Let’s get started. Take a seat, please.” Norris waited until everyone was seated before he walked up to stand in front of the map. “As you can probably guess, we have been prepping this place for a little while now. Duck Island was taken over by the Naval Underwater Research Department a few months before all this craziness started. They began the upgrades and making the island hospitable until after the election. We just took it over when we arrived in New England.” He paused. “Lieutenant Payne has been trying to reestablish Naval Intelligence since the beginning so this has been his project. There are no fully functioning intelligence agencies left in the country. We are changing that. Gentlemen, welcome to DI-6”

Brett raised his hand. “Sir, what is DI-6”

Norris smiled. “You are. The name is just Duck Island and the first team we are fielding is six people. Your job is to go into a designated target area, infiltrate the enemy forces and report back all intel you can gather. We are sending you in with very little training and preparation so the only advice I will give you is be fucking careful. Each of you were chosen for a specific reason. Brett you have the contacts on the ground. Nunez and Mendoza your cover will be investigators of the Secretariat of Information. Argentina’s secret police division. Your orders are from the Minister of Intelligence directly. This should allow you to move around pretty easily, Even most senior commanders will not stop you. Do not use it to the point that they start questioning it. It will only cover you with the most casual review. Payne has hacked the SI database and built orders for you but should anyone start looking into it they will kill you. Blake and Ryan, you are there to protect Brett and Kyle. Your cover will be runaway boys just like Brett and Kyle which will allow you to move around the city without much notice. Kyle, Lieutenant Payne is going to spend the next two days teaching you all the codes and how to use the communication gear we are sending. Your job will be two-fold, you are there to look after the team and be their communications expert. Blake is a medic but will spend every minute he can teaching you to be a backup. Any questions, so far?”

No one said a word.

“Ok, then I will leave you to it. Gentlemen, everything you do, see or hear at this facility and on your mission cannot be discussed with anyone outside of your team, the staff here or me. That includes, family, friends, fellow soldiers and lovers. You are going into enemy territory and have about one week to infiltrate the enemy forces and get me as much intel as you can. Look out for each other and do not take risks. Be vigilant and don’t trust anyone. I will not see you again until you’re all back here.” He paused “The national intelligence services are defunct, what I am doing here is technically illegal. I have given you all the rank of Marine Captain to circumvent that but there is no doubt you are a secret spy agency. The President and Congress have not approved this, should anyone discover this we could all end up in jail or worse. Each of you will be given sealed orders signed by me. At any point in the future if this agency lands you in hot water those orders will save your ass and put all the blame on me. You report to me through Payne. I want you to understand my intentions. This nation has been infiltrated at the highest level. We will begin to hunt down the infiltrators in due course but now, you will be my eyes and ears around the world. Payne will brief you on the Army of God, that is our ultimate enemy. The only way to find them is to fight fire with fire and you are my fire. But for now you need to make and develop contacts in the Argentinian army and anyone that can get us any information on the ground. Blend in, do whatever it takes to make friends, your methods will not be questioned ever. Understand that once I walk out that door you cease to exist in your current lives, you now belong to DI-6. My point is if you get caught or die we will not acknowledge it. This is your last chance to walk away, understand that if you do, you must never speak about DI-6 again. If you do you will risk all the lives of everyone in this room and they will not allow that. Any questions?”

He paused and no one said a word the entire room was quiet. “Good, does anyone want to leave now?”

He waited and no one said a word until Brett cleared his throat. “Admiral, if you are done trying to scare us, the Shadow Warriors need to be briefed on our mission.”

Norris smiled. “Smart ass. Shadow Warriors, I like that. Very well, Shadow Warriors, get out there and make history. And come home when you’re done.”

The admiral walked out of the room leaving them all there staring after him.

Three hours later they returned to their building. Their heads were buzzing with the amount of information that was dumped into their brains. They entered the building to the smells of food that made them all realize they were starving. Sergeant Kwon was standing there with a smile on her face. “Beef stew with biscuits. Grab a bowl and relax.”

Brett sat down in his wheelchair and began taking off the prosthetics. Kyle grabbed an ointment out of his backpack and kneeled in front of Brett. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up to see Blake.

“Brett, Kyle may I take a look?”

Kyle looked at Brett and he just shrugged. Blake knelt down and looked at both stumps. “Hmmm scar tissue is growing rapidly. But you need to be careful you don’t over do it. Too much use of the prosthetics will reverse the healing. Only use the prosthetics when you have to. When we are in theater may I recommend an improvised wheelchair to help us fit in.”

Brett smiled. “Actually I was thinking just a skateboard. I had a friend that was born with no legs and that’s how he got around. He was killed a few years before all this started.”

Blake looked up at him. “Sorry about your friend. Do you still feel them?”

Brett paused and looked at them. “Yes sometimes. I feel like they itch or are in pain sometimes.”

“I am told it takes a long time for that to go away. I will work with you on some mental exercises that can help with that. Some things that you need to do anyway to help control your emotions, fears and desires.”

Brett shrugged again. “Ok… sure can’t hurt, right?”

Blake stood up. “Kyle you help Brett out and I will grab you both some grub.”

Brett’s frustration showed on his face and was about to say something about not needing help but Blake cut him off.

Blake smiled. “You do need help and better get used to it.” He knelt back down. “Brett I am not one to pull punches but on this mission you are a physical liability.” He held his hand up to stop Brett. “We all know how important you are to this mission and everyone is here to help you accomplish it. With the team that I work with, command is based on the strongest most powerful person. Physically you are a liability but you are still the strongest most powerful person in this room. Without you, this mission will fail and if this mission fails there is a damn good chance the attack will fail and if the attack fails then we could lose the war and many of my family will die. So let me be clear, we all are here to be ‘your’ babysitter, you’re the only one that hasn’t gotten it yet.” He stood up and walked off to get the food.

They were sitting at the table eating without saying a word. Sergeant Kwon had just left when Kyle looked up. “So we gonna talk about this.”

Brett smiled. “Nope. Ryan would you do me a favor? In my room is the FM receiver, would you please bring it here.”

Ryan ran up the stairs, grabbed the receiver. Darted back down the stairs and handed it to Brett. Brett turned it on and turned the tuner dial all the way to the highest range and then turned the volume all the way up. He rolled his wheelchair back and put the radio on the counter. “Ok it’s transmitting at a frequency way higher than our voices so it should drown us out.”

Juan looked over and smiled. “You know they are listening don’t you.”

Brett smiled. “Yes. First, Payne is a first class Intelligence officer and anyone in intelligence would bug this building to make sure we are all not blabbing away or thinking about running. Plus that comment about hoping our quarters are tasteful enough was a slight jab at my redecorating comment upstairs when we first arrived, then he made a specific reference to Kyle not being jealous of our ‘guards’. He was telling us he is listening and wants us to find a way to figure it out and overcome it. It’s a test.”

Juan smiled and walked over to the receiver still transmitting static and picked it up. He placed a finger to his mouth and started walking around the kitchen with the receiver held in front of him. As he walked by the microwave the static disrupted slightly. He pointed at it and Carlos came over and began ripping apart the inside door to the Microwave. Juan continued to move around the room and stopped by the light fixture in the hall leading to the back stairs and pointed at it. Blake smiled and jumped up. It took them an hour before they were satisfied they found all the bugs in the building. They looked at the small pile of 12 listening devices on the table and smiled.

Kyle stood up scooped them all up, walked to the bathroom and flushed them down the toilet. When he returned he was smiling. “This cloak and dagger stuff is pretty fun.”

Brett just looked at him and sighed, “It’s gonna get ugly babe be prepared. Now we can talk. Blake, care to tell us the UNIT’s interest in this.”

“Hey man I am just a soldier like the rest of you. I wasn’t told why, just to go and when I am ordered to do something I do and don’t ask questions.” He paused. “Besides even if I knew I probably wouldn’t tell you.”

“We are all going to have to get used to keeping secrets and you, Blake are going to have stop reading our thoughts.”

Everyone just stared at Brett. “He knows what’s going on before we do. He is not shocked by anything we say or do. He seems to know what we need before we even do. This is more of a guess than any real explanation but Blake is telepathic.”

Blake nodded. “I was wondering when you would decide to tell the rest you figured it out. I will teach you how to block me so you feel more comfortable around me as well. And yes Brett you are picturing Kyle naked at the moment and I will say if I were gay I would be thinking about that too. Good for you Kyle.”

Juan stood up. “Ok that’s it. That’s enough.”

Kyle was beat red and Brett was laughing. “What’s a matter Juan can’t handle the gay jokes.”

“What? No, you’re worried about how I am going to react about gay jokes when he can read minds.”

Blake stood up and faced Juan. “I can only read surface thoughts and don’t ask me to explain much more than that. Just know genetic augmentation is a real thing and our enemies are trying to recreate it. We have to stop them. And that, I know will be part of this group’s mission.”

Juan just stared at him. “I just don’t understand.”

“You will eventually but be glad we are are on your side. If we weren’t and our enemies were able to recreate the genetic manipulation done on some UNIT members, you would lose this war and everyone would be enslaved to the AOG. Bad people did this and we will not allow it to happen ever again.”

Juan sat down. “I don’t have a choice but to deal. So now what?”

Ryan leaned forward. “More than likely, the training for the next two days is more about letting us see what each other is capable of. So I say we get some sleep and get a fresh start tomorrow.”

Blake smiled and pulled out a small device. “I say, we listen to what’s going on at command.”

He turned the device on and they could hear Lieutenant Payne’s voice. “They found all the listening devices?”

Another officer responded. “Yes, they did.”

“Excellent.” There was a long pause and then Payne’s voice was very loud. “Congratulations Shadow Warriors, job well done. Now get some sleep, firearms testing starts tomorrow.” There was a sudden loud noise and the transmission ended.

Blake laughed. “This is fun. They found my device.”

Carlos looked over at him. “Can’t you just read their minds?”

“Not from this distance and I think everyone in this compound has had some training. They are getting good at blocking out telepaths.”

Juan just shook his head. “This is some fucked up Star Trek shit here.”

Blake patted him on the shoulder. “Who told you?”
