Chapter 21 – Home for the Holidays

After we left the dog park and returned to the house, Devin and I grabbed our duffle bags and carried them out to his SUV, and then we went back inside to get the chest and the boards to take back with us as well. Gramps was going to follow us most of the way, but he would keep going when we turned to go to my house. It’s because Devin was planning on spending a few days with us before he drove to the cabin, and since he’d be leaving before noon, Gramps felt it would be ok without him following behind this time.

The trip seemed to go faster than usual, but that might have been due to the fact that Devin and I were joking around about what we’d done to Louella on Thursday night and her reaction to it. She’ll have the entire winter break to clean up the mess, that is if she didn’t take her car to the carwash before she headed into work the next day. However, she can’t put the blame on us for what happened, and she even saw us loading our things into the SUV before we left and didn’t even scowl at us. Hopefully, she’ll think God was paying her back for making false accusations about us, and possibly she’ll be nicer to us, but then again, we decided that she’d never come to a conclusion like that on her own.

When we finished talking about Louella, we began singing Christmas songs, and then we tooted and waved at Gramps when he kept going and didn’t follow us when I turned off and headed to my house.

When we eventually pulled into the driveway, my parent’s SUV was there as well, which meant they were home, but since it was Saturday, we expected they would be unless they were out shopping. We got out of the SUV, grabbed our duffle bags, and headed inside to say hello.

“We’re glad you’re home and that we’ll have a nice long time to spend together,” Mom said.

“Yes, it’s nice that you’re both here,” dad added, “and I told your mother not to worry about supper tonight, because I’m taking us all out to eat later.”

“I’ve prepared lunch for everyone, though, so when you’re ready, we’ll all sit down and eat together.”

“Ok, just give us a couple of minutes to take our bags upstairs and make a quick trip to the bathroom first, and then we’ll be right down,” I replied.

“Yeah, having lunch now and then going out later for supper sounds terrific,” Devin added.

We then carried our duffle bags upstairs and dropped them off in my room, and then we went to use the toilet and freshened up a bit before heading downstairs to have lunch with my parents. While we were chowing down, they asked how we thought we’d done on our finals.

“They were tough, but I think I did well,” I answered.

“Yeah, I think I did really well too.”

“That’s good to hear,” Mom responded.

“How long will you be able to stay with us, Devin?” Dad asked.

“Since Christmas is on Thursday and we’ll all be coming back on Wednesday, I’ve agreed to stay here until Monday, if you don’t mind.”

“We don’t mind at all and that will be fine,” Dad agreed.

“Good, then around noon on Monday Devin and I will drive to the cabin to spend a couple of days with his family before we all drive back here on Christmas Eve Day. That way we can spend Christmas Eve and all Christmas Day to celebrate together.”

“That sounds fine, seeing your father and I will be working those days,” Mom agreed, “and I look forward to spending time with Doris and Aaron too.”

“I hope you also remembered that Lonny and Clint will be coming here for Christmas,” I said, “and we told them to arrive on Christmas Eve Day as well.”

“We haven’t forgotten and we’ve also purchased a gift for them,” Mom replied. “I reminded Doris that they’d be here for Christmas when we went shopping together on Black Friday, but I guess Devin had already reminded her about them.”

“I’m glad to hear that you’ve both purchased something for them, and we bought them presents as well.”

After we finished eating, Devin and I went outside to get the chest and the two boards so we could study them later. In the meantime, we did some research about baseball card collecting and learned quite a bit in a short amount of time, since we felt we’d probably need to know this information when dealing with collectors. That’s because we’d have to know what they were looking for when buying cards for their collection and they’d only buy from us if the quality of the cards were appropriate for making bids, especially high bids.

When it got closer to the time for us to go out to eat, Devin and I headed into the bathroom to take a shower. When we finished, I let him wear some of my dressier clothes so he didn’t have to dig through his bag for something suitable, since they’d probably be all wrinkled anyway. When we were ready, we went downstairs to join my parents.

While we were at the restaurant, we talked about many things, including something my mom brought up. “Is there something in particular that you boys might want to do on New Year’s Eve?”

“Gee, Mom, we haven’t really thought about that, since we’ve been so busy at school, but I guess all we’d need is a good meal, a chance to dance with each other, and a countdown to midnight. Why do you ask?”

“Your father found something he was interested in and I wanted to make sure it was ok with you as well.”

“What have you come up with, Dad?”

“I heard about a New Year’s Eve event that’s being held in Denver and it’s still taking reservations. It’s a package deal for couples and it’s taking place in the Grand Ballroom at the Brown Palace Hotel. If you’re not familiar with that hotel, it was constructed in 1892, during the Gilded Age, so it’s quite elaborate. I’m told they’re providing a choice of meals and there will be two bands that will play music that we can all dance to. The package also includes a room for each couple, so no one has to drive after drinking.”

“It sounds intriguing, do you know what the meal choices are?” Devin asked. .

“All of the meal choices will include multiple side dishes along with the entrée and you can select from the following. They’re offering Prime Rib au jus, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Baked Salmon with Lemon and Thyme, or Vegetarian Avocado Caprese Salad with Mushroom Wellington. The hotel will also provide the party hats and noise makers for midnight, along with a small bottle of champagne for each couple.”

“Wow, this is starting to sound really fancy,” I commented.

“It is! The two bands will also alternate throughout the evening, except for when the meal is being served, so there will be nearly constant music that we can dance to. I’m told that one band will play music from the 1940s through the 1980s, and the other band will play music from the 1990s to the present, so there should be something that’s suitable for everyone. The thing is, I should call and make the reservations no later than Sunday or Monday, if we want to do this.”

Dad then told us the price per couple, and stated he would ask that we’d all seated together at a table for six, if you boys and Devin’s parents would like to attend.

“I know it sounds a little pricy, but we only do this once a year, so why not splurge?” my mom added. “I think it sounds like a wonderful idea and I haven’t done anything like this in ages, so it will be a wonderful change.”

“Yes, let’s do it,” Devin and I agreed, “and we’ll check with Ma and Pa when we got out to the cabin. Do you think we could include Gramps, Pops, and their wives?”

“Sure, it they’d like to join us. I think it would be nice to get to know them as well, since you boys have spent so much time with them. Just let us know who’s interested in going with us, and then I’ll call to make the reservations. Don’t worry, we’ll let you know if they have room for such a large party just as soon as I find out anything, since it’s already pretty late to be making plans for New Year’s Eve.”

“I’m sure we’ll be able to work something out, even if we have to go somewhere else. Do you think this information is online?”

“I’m not sure, but it might be. You’ll have to check to see if they have anything on their website, because I believe they have one. And while I’m thinking about it, I know you’re going to spend some time with Devin’s family before Christmas, but have you decided on when you’ll be heading back to Fort Collins?”

“Yes, we’ll be going back on January 11th.”

“Isn’t that a week earlier than you originally told us?” my dad asked.

“It is, but there’s a problem on campus and we’ve offered to help out with it.”

“What sort of problem?”

“There were break-ins at a couple of the residence halls during Thanksgiving break and someone stole a whole bunch of stuff out of an assortment of dorm rooms. We were thinking they might try to do it again over the Christmas break, so a bunch of us agreed to either stay longer before heading home for the break or returning earlier and helping to keep a lookout for them. Devin and I thought we could use our unique ability of being able to appear as different people to help capture whoever is doing this, and the best time to do it is while the students aren’t in the dorms.”

“Isn’t that the job of campus security?”

“It is, but they’re too spread out and we’re afraid the thieves might run a decoy operation to get the security guards away from where they plan to attack. Devin and I are also going to set up a 24-hour watch rotation using our ability to hide what we’re doing. Security is going to give us a couple of their radios to use so we know where they are and what they’re doing, and we’ll let them know if we see anything.”

“That sounds like a big job, and it might possibly get dangerous if you try to apprehend the thieves,” my mom stated.

“We’re not going to do that. We’ll merely notify campus security hoping they might be able to return to capture the thieves. If not, we’ll just use binoculars to get license plate numbers or try to follow them and see where they go. We’ll have vehicles stationed all around the perimeter of the campus and we’ll tell the drivers which way the thieves seem to be heading so they’ll know where to wait for them.”

“But you’ll only be doing this during the final week of Christmas break,” my dad pointed out. “Who’s doing it the rest of the time?”

“A group of Jewish guys volunteered to be on duty from Saturday through Wednesday. And then a group of foreign students that aren’t returning home during the break will go on duty on Christmas Eve day and stay on duty until New Year’s Day. Some of the guys that live in or around Fort Collins will take over on January 2nd and stay on duty until we return, and then Devin and I will take over until most of the students have returned.”

“What if the thieves don’t show up again?”

“We thought about that too and figured they might lay low over Christmas, but we want to be prepared in case they strike again after Christmas is over. If they don’t show up at all, then me might have to do this again over spring break.”

“So, you might not be home then either?” my mom gasped.

“It’s possible, but we’ll let you know well in advance if that’s the case. We all want to catch the thieves and we’re also watching to see if any of the stolen property appears for sale on any of the online sites.”

“That sounds like a lot of work, but will someone contact you if the thieves get caught before it’s your shift?”

“Yes, we’ll be notified immediately, if that’s the case.”

I know it was a very involved fabrication about a bunch of other guys taking shifts to do this, but I planned it all out in advance. I didn’t want my parents’ feelings to be hurt because we were going back so early to do research at the Old Town Library about Johnny Logan’s death.

We also want to see if the thieves actually lay low until just prior to the students returning to campus before they strike again, since their first haul had been discovered. Devin and I are also invested in this, seeing we were investigated because Louella told the cops we might have taken part in the crime. We’re just hopeful that the local police and campus security are doing their jobs in keeping an eye on the situation during this time as well.

When we returned home, Devin and I thanked my parents for taking us out to eat, and then we chatted with them a little while longer before we all decided to turn in. My parents were tired, and Devin and I were planning on making love before we got ready for bed.

When Devin and I woke up on Sunday morning, we went downstairs and had breakfast with my mom and dad.

“What do you boys have planned for today?” my mom asked.

“Nothing! We were waiting to see what you and dad wanted to do first.”

“Well, I still have some shopping that I need to take care of and your father mentioned that Liam Fitzpatrick had invited all of us over to their house for a Christmas party later.”

“Are there going to be others at the party?” I asked.

“Yes, Liam told me that he’d invited a few of our co-workers and their wives, but they’re ok and I don’t think you and Devin will have any problems with them.”

“Do they have any children?”

“One of the married guys is childless, and the other two married guys’ both have children that are grown and no longer live at home. The fourth guy is in his 40s and has never been married, so I assume he doesn’t have any kids either.”

“I guess it doesn’t sound too bad then,” I agreed. “Are you going shopping with Mom?”

“Of course, because she’s going to need a lackey to carry all of her purchases,” he said, and then my mom playfully slapped him on the arm.

“Ok, then while you and Mom are shopping, Devin and I will work on the non-school related project that we brought here with us.”

“Ok, we’ll see you later then.”

Shortly after my parents left, Devin asked a question.

“Do you think we might get a chance to mess around with Rory and Jaxon again?”

“I don’t see why not. The adults probably won’t think anything about it if we go off to entertain ourselves, since we don’t really fit in with the rest of them and Rory and Jaxon aren’t old enough to drink.”

“Good, otherwise the party will probably be a drag.”

First, we decided to look online to see if we could find any more information about the New Year’s Eve event at the Brown Palace Hotel. I was mildly surprised that the same information that Dad told us was printed there as well, and it also said there were still openings available, so I hoped there would be enough openings for a party as large as the one we might have. “We can show this to your dad when we’re at the cabin, but we’ll have to go into work with him to do it, if they have Wi Fi there.”

“I’m pretty sure they do, since they’d need it to do their jobs.”

“That’s what I thought too.”

Now that this had been researched, we headed out to make some purchases on our own, but it wasn’t to purchase any Christmas presents. We were merely looking to pick up a few items for our special project concerning our recent discovery. After going to a specialty store that focused on Sports items, we looked around at the various materials that we might be interested in purchasing. We discussed the different items with the clerk on duty, who happened to also be a baseball card collector.

He was very knowledgeable and helped us a lot by suggesting what would be best to use. “This type of protective sleeve is made from acid-free, crystal-clear polypropylene and wouldn’t stick to the card or damage them.”

We took his advice and decided to purchase a huge quantity of those, because we’ll be using them to protect all of the cards, except those in the worst condition. We also decided to purchase a fairly large quantity of the ridged Toploader protective sleeves as well after hear his explanation.

“These are constructed from high-quality, rigid PVE for durability and clarity, and they’ll offer the best protection,”

“Yeah, we’ll use those on any cards that we deem might be worth the most money,” Devin whispered to me and I nodded in agreement.

“Although the rigid protective sleeves offer the best protection,” he continued, “the cards might still be able to slide around inside of them and get scratched whenever they’re being moved. To prevent that, it’s best to put the cards in the soft sleeves before you place them into a Toploader sleeve, so they’ll no longer be able to move around or get damaged.”

“I’m glad you told us that,” Devin responded, “and since the soft sleeves only cost a penny each, it’s not like we can’t afford to do it.”

“And instead of always saying soft protective sleeves, you might hear other collectors refer to them simply as penny sleeves. And one more thing, even after doing all of that, the baseball card might still slide out of the penny sleeve and top loader sleeve, since they don’t always form a tight seal. To keep that from happing, I suggest you find a store that sells rolls of blue painter’s tape and purchase a roll. Then, just cut off a small piece and place it across the top of the ridged holders. That will stop the cards from slipping out of the Toploader during transport and you won’t have to worry about them losing value.”

“You might also want to purchase some Gold Card Semi-Rigid Card Holders as well, because the pre-1957 trading cards are slightly larger and won’t fit into a Toploader sleeve, so these will be best to protect those cards as well.”

We’ll probably need more of each type of sleeve before we’re done, but we picked out enough of each item to get us started. Then, as we go along, we’ll be able to determine how many more of each type of sleeve will be required.

“I don’t know if you might be interest in these as well, but these cardboard storage boxes are divided into rows to help organize the cards, and they are also inexpensive.”

We thought they were a good idea as well, and we can place the cards inside those boxes first, before putting them back inside the Tupperware container for even more protection. If they don’t fit in the Tupperware container, we can always buy a new container that will hold everything without allowing the cards to shift around inside it while they’re being transported. If the cardboard boxes are still able to move about, we’ll just place other packaging material, such as Styrofoam panels or bubble wrap, around the boxes in order to accomplish our goal.

“Thank you for all of the valuable information. You’ve been a great help,” I told him as we put all of the items we’d selected on the counter and got ready to pay for them.

When we returned to the house, I got my laptop and we searched for a list of cards that were the most valuable and might be worth the most money. That, of course, would also depend on the condition of the card as well. A couple of lists came up, and as expected, they offer a lot of the same information, but each one offered some other information as well. We focused only on cards before 1970, since Johnny Logan died in 1969, and over time we learned that the cards of Hall of Fame players were worth the most money, especially their rookie cards. Their other cards were still valuable, along with those of future Hall of Fame players, and we were able to get a list of those as well.

As soon as we’d done the research, we placed the Tupperware container on my bed, opened it, and then we each carefully removed a small group of baseball cards. After setting them down on the bed, we carefully picked up a card and placed it into a penny sleeve. We also looked the card over once they were in the sleeve to see if we could spot any damage, either small or great, and we read over the information listed on the back of the card. We then separated out the cards we thought might be worth the most money from the rest of the pack, and Devin and I talked over each decision to make sure we agreed with the assessment.

Even though the previous owner had treated the cards with love and respect, he was still a kid and hadn’t taken the same precautions that a pro would have taken. For that reason, there was some minor to more severe damage to the cards, so we probably wouldn’t find any cards that would be rated a 10, or Gem. On the other hand, we also didn’t have any cards that we felt would be rated either 1 or 2, poor or fair, so each of the cards would most likely fall somewhere in between.

As soon as we put the card in one or both types of sleeves, we would place it in a row in one of the cardboard boxes with cards with similar damage before moving on to the next card. We continued doing this until my parents arrived home from their shopping trip a few hours later, and then we went down to join them.

“We stopped at the grocery store on the way home and picked up some strip steaks for supper,” my mom announced.

“Is there anything we can do to help?” I asked.

“You can set the table for me while I’m getting everything ready. It shouldn’t take more than a half hour for everything to be ready, since this dinner will be fairly simple. We’ll be having the steaks, baked potatoes, broccoli, and a salad. You can add a little ranch dressing to the broccoli if you prefer, because I’m going to use oil, vinegar, and a little salt and pepper on the salad. Oh, and we also picked up a container of sour cream that you can use on the baked potatoes.”

“That sounds great and we’ll be happy to set the table for you. We’ll even do the dishes afterward.”

“That will be very helpful, but we won’t have much time after we eat before we’ll have to leave to go to the Fitzpatrick’s house for the party.”

“No problem. We’ll just hurry while also doing a good job.”

While we were eating, Dad spoke. “I thought of something else. Since you’re going to the cabin tomorrow, give me a call as soon as you can to let me know if Aaron and Doris want to do this, and maybe you can find out about Gramps, Pops, and their wives at the same time. As soon as I have that information, I’ll call and order all of our tickets.”

“Ok, we’ll make sure to go somewhere that my phone will work so I can let you know, but we might not be able to do it until Tuesday.”

“Why’s that?”

“I’m afraid that any time I went to the office with my dad, I was always so excited about going there that I’d spend the whole trip talking to my dad as he drove there. And if Mac was with us, I’d spend my time talking to him, so I’ve never really paid attention to how to get there.”

“I’m surprised, but let me know that information as soon as you can on Tuesday so I can call there and make our reservations before they’re all booked up.”

“Ok, we’ll call you as soon as we find out if Gramps and Pops want to go too.”

“That will be fine.”

Once we finished eating, Devin and I cleared off the table and washed the dishes. When that was done, we went upstairs to clean up and get dressed, because my parents had already started getting ready while we were doing the dishes.

After we were set, Dad drove us over to the Fitzpatrick’s house and Mr. and Mrs. Fitzpatrick greeted us at the door. “Merry Christmas and welcome to our little party.”

They then introduced Devin and me to the other guests that were already there. It seemed that Mom had been to company picnics with Dad before with these couples, so they were already acquainted with each other.

We weren’t the last ones to arrive, though, because another couple showed up a few minutes later, and then we all went into the family room together. Mrs. Fitzgerald had Christmas music playing softly in the background and the room was tastefully decorated for the holiday season. There were also snacks sitting on the coffee and end tables, and the Fitzpatricks were busy making sure the adults all had a drink.

“We’re certainly glad you guys were able to come to this party or my brother and I would be totally bored,” Jaxon told us.

“Does that mean you have something special in mind that will prevent you both from getting bored?” I asked.

“Yeah, we thought we could go upstairs and have our own party. We got everything ready while our mom was doing the same thing down here,” he replied, and then he and Rory burst out laughing.

“It sounds good to us as well, as long as you don’t think anyone will bother us,” Devin responded.

“Nah, we already told Mom we might take you guys upstairs rather than hang around with their friends,” Rory answered. “She said that would be fine, so it’s a good thing she’s a little naïve at times.”

“Yeah, my mom can be like that as well,” I agreed.

“And we’ll be able to exchange presents,” Jaxon added before he and Rory started laughing again.

“It sounds good to us,” I concurred.

“We’ve already got a bunch of snacks upstairs for later, so we’ll just need to get a drink before we head upstairs,” Rory stated.

They asked Devin and I what we wanted, and when we said a soda would be fine, they indicated they’d meant mixed drinks. Once we told them what we preferred, we watched as they mixed the drinks for us, but they didn’t stop there and began mixing two more drinks for themselves. They must have noticed the surprised expressions on our faces as they were doing this, because they quickly offered an explanation.

“Our parents don’t mind if we have a couple of these, as long as we don’t get drunk and start acting stupid,” Jaxon informed us.

“That’s very open-minded of them,” Devin responded.

“Yeah, they’re pretty reasonable sometimes.”

As soon as we had our drinks, we followed them up to Rory’s room. We sat down and chatted for a while first, as we sipped our drinks and devoured some of the snacks. After doing that for a short time, Jaxon asked a question.

“Do you want to do us first or do you want us to do you?”

“It’s your choice,” Devin replied.

“In that case, Rory and I will go downstairs and make us all another drink first, and then you can do us when we get back. We’re horny as hell, because we’ve been looking forward to this all day.”

I guess that explained things, so we watched as they collected our glasses and headed downstairs. When they returned, we each took a sip of our drinks before setting them down, and then Rory and Jaxon hurriedly got ready so we could go to work on them.

After they removed their dress slacks and underwear, they sat next to each other on Rory’s bed. Devin and I then positioned ourselves between their legs and went to work. We were glad they chose to go first, because we were afraid that if they did us first, then they might end up shooting their loads in no time at all. They still didn’t last very long, because it took them less time than during our previous times together, so maybe the alcohol had something to do with that. When we finished the task, the pair had something to tell us before we switched places.

“Jaxon and I were talking about this earlier and agreed that you guys are a lot better at doing this than any of the girls we’ve dated.”

“Yeah, they usually jerk us off when we get close,” Jaxon added, “and won’t let us shoot in their mouths.”

“I suppose that’s pretty common, though, and we probably do a better job because we know what feels best to us. A girl can only guess about what we like, at least until she’s done it often enough to see what makes the different guys that she’s been with respond the best.”

“Yeah, I suppose you’re right.”

At this point, we let them clean up quickly and get dressed again, and then we switched places. They seemed to improve every time they did this and they even let us shoot in their mouths. They’ve also gotten to the point where they don’t mind swallowing, but they each grabbed a swig from their drink immediately afterward, while we were getting dressed.

After polishing off our drinks and scarfing down more of the snacks, Rory asked a question.

“Now that we’ve exchanged presents, do you think we should go downstairs and see what our parents and the others are up to?”

“Yeah, it might be wise to let them see us so they know we’re not up to anything,” Devin and I agreed.

“Yeah, we’ve already done that,” Rory joked.

“And if they’re doing lame stuff like just talking and telling stories about when they were younger, we’ll just come back here again,” Jaxon added.

“It sounds good to us.”

When we went downstairs, we discovered the adults were dancing and the husbands were more than happy to let their wives dance with the single guy once in a while as well. Since that wasn’t anything that we were interested in doing, we went out to see what there was to eat in the kitchen, and that’s when we noticed they’d obviously had pizzas delivered while we were in Rory’s bedroom.

“Hey, these weren’t here when we came down to refill our drinks,” Rory stated.

“Who cares, just grab a paper plate and take a couple of slices before we go back to Rory’s room,” Jaxon suggested.

“And we’ll also grab a soda out of the fridge, unless you guys want another mixed drink,” Rory added. “I don’t think Jaxon and I should have any more alcohol, because we’re really not used to it.”

“We only turned twenty-one during the past year, so we aren’t either, and we’ll just have soda like you’re doing,” I replied, and as soon as we had our drinks and the pizza, we headed upstairs to Rory’s room again.

Shortly after we’d finished scarfing down the pizza and drank the sodas, Rory went to the bathroom and grabbed a bottle of Febreze. When he returned, he sprayed the curtains and his bedding with it.

“Why are you doing that?” Devin asked.

“I noticed when we came back to the room after going downstairs that it smelled like cum, probably because all four of us had ejaculated earlier. I don’t want my mom to smell that odor if she comes up here, and even though she’s a little naïve at times, I have a feeling she’d still know what caused the smell. The Febreze will quickly obliterate the odor and make the room smell much better.”

We continued chatting, and about twenty minutes later we heard a knock on the bedroom door. After Rory said, “Come in,” his mom entered the room. She smiled and sniffed the air as she walked in, so we were all glad that Rory had sprayed the Febreze.

“I’m pleased to see that you had enough sense to use the Febreze before these boys arrived, because your room was beginning to smell like dirty socks and old athletic shoes,” she stated. And then she turned toward me and continued speaking. “Mickey, your parents wanted me to tell you and Devin that they’re getting ready to leave.”

“Thank you and we’ll be right down.”

After she left, Rory and Jaxon began to laugh. “I’m glad she only thought my room smelled like dirty socks and old athletic shoes before,” Rory stated.

“Yeah, cuz he jerks off in here so much that she’s also had to smell cum in here before,” Jaxon added. “She probably also wonders why the towels he uses are always so crusty.”

“And that goes for your bedroom too,” Rory snapped back.

Once the tension between the brothers had subsided, the four of us grabbed the empty paper plates, soda cans, and whatever else Rory wanted us to take to the kitchen before we made our way downstairs.

“Did you boys have a good time?” my mom asked when she saw us.

“Yes, we had a blast and I’m glad we got to visit with Rory and Jaxon again,” I answered.

After Rory and Jaxon retrieved our coats, we put them on and thanked their parents for the wonderful evening. We also said goodnight to everyone else before heading out the door and making our way to the car.

“That was really nice and I enjoyed myself tonight,” my mom said as my dad started driving. “I never thought we’d be dancing, but it was a really nice change.”

“Yes, I enjoyed it too, and I’m glad you ladies didn’t mind dancing with Brad Calhoun every now and then, or he might have felt out of place.”

“He’s actually a pretty good dancer. I have no idea why he’s never married.”

“You have to be more than a good dancer to be a potential husband,” my dad quipped. “He apparently must have some bad traits as well.”

“Yes, I suppose so. What did you boys do?”

“Oh, we just talked and ate,” I said. “It was really nice to see Rory and Jaxon again.”

“You boys get along really well, don’t you?” my dad followed.

“Yes, even though they’re a little younger than us, we’ve hit if off much better than we thought we would the first time we met them.”

“Yeah, we enjoy being with them, even though we weren’t able to go swimming this time,” Devin joked.

“Then maybe we’ll get together with them again this summer,” Dad responded. I’ll talk to Liam about it.”

“That would be great!” Devin said while smiling broadly.

When we reached the house, I noticed it was later than I thought, so before we went up to our rooms, I decided to ask my parents a question. “How many days this week do you have to work?”

“We have to work every day except Christmas Day,” Mom answered, “and I’m hoping my bosses will let us go home early on Christmas Eve Day after the luncheon they’re throwing for us,”

“My work place has already told us that we’ll be able to leave after our Christmas luncheon, so I hope I don’t have to wait around for your mother to get out of work.”
