My Great Fairy King

It was late in the afternoon. There was a cool breeze coming off the ocean as Myor laid back, exhausted from his day’s work. Merick was gone, so were the rest of the islanders. Myor was here, all alone. No, he wasn’t alone, there was someone else here. Someone he didn’t like. Myor could feel his presence and he didn’t like it. D’jon, the one Merick was supposed to take him to meet. But he smelled different now. Myor knew that smell. It was the smell of guilt. D’jon felt guilty about something he was doing.

Convinced he was on the right track, Myor climbed back on his feet and shrugging his exhaustion off. He made the shift to his phoenix form and took off into the air. Feeling free, he did a few barrel rolls and flew up to the top of the volcano. Myor knew D’jon would still be here on the island. His quest for power would make it too hard for him to leave with just the ring. No, why take just the ring when he could have the powers of a phoenix to go with it.

As he spun in the airwaves, Myor thought he saw a glint of light coming up at him from the side of the volcano.

With a quick move, Myor fell like a rock avoiding the blast coming from below. As he looked back, Myor saw the light blast coming at him from below. Unsure of what the blast would do to him, Myor dodged side to side to avoid the blasts. When the blast stopped, Myor sent a few shots of his own down to rain on his enemy below. When Myor looked back to see what was happening, Something shot up from below. As it got close enough to see, Myor recognized the Fae that was riding the air currents after him. It was a Firefly. Actually it was a male fire fairy. Fireflies are rare fairies. They are all born in forest fires. They are drawn to mate with any fairie they can. Some are motivated to acquire as much power as they can, which gives them a much longer life cycle. The Firefly was dressed in shades of red yellow. Its wide-legged pants were yellow and he wore a red tunic that always looked like it was on fire.

[Aiya Fae,] Myor sent. [Why are you chasing after me?]

[Because you are after something that belongs to me.] he said. [Why are you after my ring?]

[That ring isn’t yours,] Myor sent. [It belongs to Bram Thorne. And if you keep wearing it, it’ll drive you crazy.]

[No!!] The fae yelled. [I’m not crazy. It’s mine. I found it deep in the heart of the mountain, and I’m going to keep it.]

[Who are you?] Myor asked him. [And why do you want that ring so bad?]

[My name is Flare, but some call me D’jon,] the fae said. [And I’m tired of getting kicked around being treated like shit. I am a firefly, No, I’m the king of the fireflies and I will not be treated like this!!]

Myor looked at the firefly like he was crazy. Could the ring have driven him crazy already? Myor wasn’t sure, all he knew was he had to get that ring away from him before it made him really nuts. But? How could he get the ring off his hand?

[I am the king of all the fairies.] Flare huffed. [Za er yuit nkig.]

Myor stepped back away from the firefly. It was too late. The fairy was crazy. Myor dived down towards the ground and at the last second, he turned to fly up. The firefly slammed into the ground then launched himself into the air chasing after the phoenix. With the firefly hot on his tail, Myor shot fireballs behind him at the firefly. He saw them hit the firefly but it kept coming after him. Obviously fire didn’t work, but that wasn’t all of Myor’s weapons. It would take a few minutes, but this fight was not over,

As Myor dodged the firefly’s lava bolt, Myor held his power in and strained to switch from heat to cold. As the phoenix dodged lava bolts, it started to change. It cooled off and started to turn blue. Frost started to trail behind Myor. In just a few minutes, he changed from the hot and wild phoenix to a cold and frozen Snowbird.

How things were a bit different. Myor couldn’t use his cold to send ice bolts at the firefly. He had to hold his ice in and let it build to be as cold as he could be.

As Myor built his cold, shards of ice fell off him and crashed into the firefly. Flare kept chasing him. The more ice he crashed into, the madder he became. They flew in like this for another three minutes then Myor stopped in midair, he turned around and shot his ice back at the firefly. As the sub-zero ice shot back at Flare, ice began to form all over him. His hair stopped burning, his red coat went from red to black ash then he fell out of the sky to crash into the side of the mountain. Just then, the volcano shook the ground making it hard for anything to stand. There was a rumbling growl coming from the mountain. Then there was an explosion high up on the side of the volcano. Moving fast, Myor ran to the fairy and took the ring from his finger. He checked his pulse and found he was still alive. Now Myor found he was in a real predicament. Myor couldn’t take Flare with, and he wasn’t sure what would happen if he left him there. Myor knew the heat of the volcano couldn’t hurt him, but he wasn’t sure about the firefly. Being left there would probably turn him into something the Dragons would have to deal with.

[Then I think you need a bit of help.] Blaze said as he dropped down to land. [Aiya Myor. Can I lend you a hand?]

With Flare taken care of and Jattondt a smoldering heap of volcanic mud, Myor, with the ring, was back on his way to meet up with Quyyn and the others. So much for my great fairy king.

From somewhere deep in the jungle, a dark bird sits high on his tree perch and watched Myor. With a loud cry, it leaped from its perch and winged its way home to its master. It had a lot to report and there wasn’t a lot of time if Bram’s plan was going to work.

The next morning, Quyyn woke up next to Sky. For a minute he laid there and watched as Sky slept. His breathing made soft and gentle sounds. He had a smile on his face. It looked like he knew Quyyn was there staring at him. Quyyn was always mesmerized when he looked at his mate. He always wanted to kiss Sky’s tender lips and feel the blood flowing through the veins. There was no doubt how much Quyyn loved Sky, or what he would do to keep him safe.

As Sky turned over on his stomach, Quyyn reached over a put his hand on his naked bottom. He felt warm and amazing. For a Snow phoenix, his body felt warm. As his mate, Sky always felt amazing. Sometimes, Quyyn couldn’t help but feel amazed at how much he loved Sky and how much his body always made him want to touch him. He was absolutely in love with the phoenix and there was nothing he could do about it.

As Quyyn sat there beside his mate, his hand moved all over his behind. The more he felt, the harder it was to ignore his lust.

“Then don’t ignore it.” Sky whispered. “You know how much I love you.”

“I have to Love,” Quyyn said as he squeezed his bottom. “ If we start making love now, we won’t stop until it gets dark.”

“And we have responsibilities we have to consider,” Quyyn said as he rubbed his bottom. “I know my fathers aren’t here but we still have to behave in a manner that would make them proud. Now, get your ass out of bed and get dressed. Bly and the others will be waiting for us.”

Quyyn smacked his ass and jumped up out of bed. Sky yelled something in the Phoenician and rubbed his butt.

“Smartass,” Quyyn grumbled.

As they got up, Quyyn held out his hand and helped Sky down into the falls for a shower. Coldwater fell down to shower all over them. Quyyn threw back his head and let the cool water rain down over them. He put his head back and let the cool water rinse out the dust from the long trip. As Sky finished washing his short white hair, he reached around quyyn and grabbed his member. Quyyn jumped for a second surprised to his lover’s bold move.

“Come on now,” Quyyn said. “If you get me all excited we won’t ever get out of here.”

“And that’s a bad thing?”

“When this is done, you can have all you want,” Quyyn said.

“You promise?” Sky pulled Quyyn closer to him.

“Yes,” He laughed. “I promise.”

It wasn’t long before they were out of the pool and Sky was drying them off. After they were dressed, they walked over to the campfire.

“Aiya everyone,” Quyyn said. “Did Myor get back yet?”

“Yes,” Niro said as he finished his cup of klah. “He’s down there with Bly.”

“She should be rested by now,” Rowyn said. “Anybody know where we’re going now?”

“Sorrowdown,” Caius said as he stepped out of the bushes. Niro jumped up and grabbed his hammer.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Niro said as he stepped out to challenge Caius. “Take one more step and it will be your last.”

“I’m here to join the party,” Caius said with an evil glint in his eyes. “Bram’s coming after me too. I think we should join up if we want to beat him.”

“You know what,” Niro said. “I trust my friends here. I don’t trust you, so you can keep walking.”

“You hate me that much?”

“Yes,” Niro said.

“What do the others say?” Caius looked past Niro at the others. “Well?”

“I trust Niro,” Hoddie said. “I know him. We have battled back to back. I don’t know you and what he says about you makes me not want to know you.”

“I agree,” Rowyn said. “He speaks for all of us.”

“I agree,” Bly said as she came over to the campfire with Cutter. “He speaks for all of us.”

“What about now?” Caius said as he held up a ring. “I come with the ring.”

As they started to object, Niro stood there in silence. He knew they would need the ring to end all this craziness. He would have to speak for all of them.

“Niro?” Cutter said. “It’s up to you.”

“Fine,” Niro said. “He can join us. But if you betray us, I’ll smash your head like a melon.”

“That sounds like fun,” Caius gave them all his look of deceit. Sima growled at Caius, Niro turned and walked away. Hoddie and Rowyn followed Niro over to where he had his horse tied up.

“Are you sure?” Hoddie asked. “I could wait until he falls asleep and nick the ring. Then we take off. He’ll never find us.”

“Is that how you solve all your problems?” Rowyn asked the Goblin. “Steal something?”

“It works for me,” Hoddie said. He sat down and pulled out his knife to clean his fingernails. “How about you?”

“That’s not my way,” Niro said. “I have to be honest. You should know that by now.”

“It never hurts to try. Hoddie turned to walk over to where Quyyn and Sky were finishing their breakfast. Rowyn walked around the horse while she rubbed his back.

“What’s on your mind?” Rowyn asked with a smile.

Niro walked around the horse and fed him one of his favorite roots that Niro kept in his saddlebag.

“Caius Regulus,” Niro said. “He’s dangerous. We can’t trust him. He’ll fight with us alright. But, once we get used to him, he will betray us. You can bet on that.”

“Then we, I mean you, me and Hoddie. We have to keep our eyes on him.”

Niro sat down beside her. Rowyn was very pretty. Her fairy face was outlined with lite blue feathers. Her eyes were blue and she wore a satin gown that showed her sexy shape. These things were not wasted on the eyes of Niro Herkalus and he was beginning to like being with her.

“I was thinking about my home,” He said.

“You mean Sorrowdown?”

“Yeah.” He answered. “I know I can’t go back.

“You said there’s not much there to go back too.”

“Yeah,” He looked up into her eyes. “The Pius empire is gone and it’s not coming back.”

“I hope not,” Shed said. “From what I’ve heard, I wouldn’t want it to come back. You did say it had slaves that were forced to fight in order to gain their freedom. All that for the amusement of the citizens. That’s horrible.”

“It wasn’t that bad,”

“Yes, it was,” Rowyn said. “I’m sure you remember good times. But while you had the good times, there were slaves being beaten and raped for someone else’s pleasure. How can you stand that?”

“I didn’t know,” Niro said. “That’s not true. I knew. I saw the slave market and pens. It never bothered me until I found myself and my family in one of the pens.”

“Now you see the cruel aspect of slavery,” She said. Her voice was sweet but so serious. “There is no good reason to have a slave. I’ve been fighting to keep slavery out of Fay Shea for years and Sorrowdown’s fall is a good thing, but I’m sorry about your family. I will grieve for them.”

“You say that like it means something to you,” Niro said it with a tone that bothered Rowyn.

“It does mean something to me,” She said. “I would rather not hurt you or Hoddie. You’ve come to mean something to me.”

“You mean that?” Niro took her hand into his and stared into her blue eyes. His heartbeat was tapping faster and faster. White noise blocked all the other sounds from him.

He moved closer to her for their first kiss.

“Excuse me,” Myor stepped over and broke up their moment. “I’m sorry. Did I interrupt? My apologies, everyone’s ready. We’re about to move out.”

Niro watched as Rowyn hurried away to catch up with the others. Niro took his horse by the reins and led him through the abandoned camp to where everyone was waiting.

“Where too?” he asked Bly.

Just as Bly was about to reveal their next move, an elf from the house of Durang came screaming into the camp. He fell at Niro’s feet and started babbling something about a fire monster. They all looked at each like the elf was crazy until they heard the sound of trees falling and the smell of smoke drifting through the air.

Yarden shrieked while Sima started to cry. She grabbed Niro’s belt and tried to pull him to the north.

“Myor,” Quyyn said. “My father is a fire dragon. I can feel the fire coming. Is there anything you can do?”

“If we can keep the fire in one small area, then yes, I can control it.”

“OK,” Quyyn said. “Now all we have to do is stop it from spreading, Any ideas?”

“I can do it,” Sky said. “But I need help.”

“What do you need, “Niro said.

“First, I need you to get everyone to safety,”

“Then what?” Bly asked.

“I need Niro and Yarden to clear a space,” Sky said. “Build a barrier around the fire. Keep it in a small space in the forest.”

“Ok,” Niro said as he climbed up on Ankua’s back. “Everyone follow us.”

Bly and Rowyn shrank down to their fairy size and flew up on Hoddie’s shoulder. Hoddie climbed on his pony’s back while Sima joined them on its side.

“Good luck,” Hoddie called as his pony reared up on its hind legs and took off.

“I guess it’s our turn,” Niro said as he jumped on to his saddle. “What are you two doing?”

“We’ll be responsible for the fire beast,” Quyyn said. “Good luck.”

As Niro rode off, Sky walked over to stand with Quyyn. The look on his face told Quyyn that he was scared, He wrapped his arms around Sky then he kissed his forehead.

“Don’t worry Snowbird,” he smiled. “We have the luck of the Dragon’s with us.”

“I hope you’re right.”

Running at their top speed, Quyyn and sky launched themselves into the morning sky and shifted forms.

As Niro and Yarden came out of the forest, they saw flames shooting up into the morning sky. Yarden turned to look at Niro. He wasn’t sure they could do this.

“Think positive,” Niro said, “We will succeed.”

With a final wave, Yarden dived down into the ground and he began to swim east. As he swam, his claws dug into the ground and dirt flew high into the air. He wasn’t sure how long he could do this, but he was determined to not let Niro and the others down. After the first mile, Yarden started to slow down. No, he said to himself. I will not fail, Eventide was counting on him. Digging in, he started to move faster. After his fifth-mile sweat started to rain down from his brow. He had ten more miles to go and nothing would stop him. With five more miles to go, Yarden screamed out a guttural growl.

[Nothing will stop me,] He began to chant. [I WILL SUCCEED.]

As Yarden dived into the ground, Niro took his hammer from his belt and kissed its invincible head. He slapped Ankua’s side and he prayed he would see the horse again.

“OK, Tyree,” Niro said as he spit a gob into the fire. “I guess it’s just you and I.”

With his Terrain ring on his finger, he made his first blow. The ground shook as dirt when flying in the air. Once he was down seven feet he turned west and was on his way. Boulders exploded as the ground moved aside for Niro. He tore tree roots from the ground and shifted iron, gold, and silver out of his way he charged west through the trench he dug. Animals ran as Niro charged west. Nothing could stand in his way. Not soil or stone could stand against his barrage to fight the fire. He moved the first twenty miles with ease not slowing down for anything. Twenty, thirty, forty miles. Nothing could stop him.

As he started the turn into the last ten miles, Niro was beginning to feel the exhaustion of his work. Five miles to go and he poured on his strength. Three miles, two miles one mile and he collapsed and fell right where his trench met Yarden’s.

Yarden popped his head through to Niro’s trench. Moving slowly, he pushed his way into Niro’s trench.

“I guess our job is done,” Yarden said as he lifted Niro up and pushed him up into the air.

“Good luck Myor.”

As Myor circled the forest, he watched as Niro and Yarden worked on their barrier. He saw Yarden slip and fall at the halfway point of his task, But he was back on his feet in a second. Both Niro and Yarden amazed him. He never saw two people work so hard, but it didn’t surprise him. All of his comrades including Hoddie had shown how dedicated they were to bringing Bram Thorne down. They had to be dedicated, it wasn’t just their lives at stake. It was all of Taggitia, and that included the underworld.

But the time had come for Myor Arryn to do his part to bring down the fire. Speeding up, Myor circled the fire. He poured all his power into bringing the fire down. He flew faster and faster to suck the heat right out of the fire. Round and round and round moving faster and faster until there was a massive whirlwind of fire that went from the ground to Myor. As the circles got tighter and tighter, Myor screamed out in pain as he released all of his energy up into space. When his energy was depleted, he passed out and lost his phoenix form and fell like a rock. As Sky rained snow over the forest, Quyyn flew up and caught Myor and brought him gently down to the ground.

“I just had a funny dream,” Myor said. “And you were in it.”

“Get some rest Myor,” Quyyn said. “This ain’t over yet.”

As Niro and Yarden came over to join Quyyn and Myor. Quyyn left Myor in their hands. He still had to deal with the fire beast that was the cause of the forest fire. No, that wasn’t right. Bram Thore was the cause of all of this and soon, they would face him for the final battle.
