The Ripple Effect
Book 1

Our world has become very technologically oriented. Nearly every person in the developed world depends on electrical power in some form and the multitude of devices it powers. People living in every city, in every country, and on every continent, depend on computers to assist in their daily lives.

The delicate circuitry of computers is an integral part of many everyday things we rely on: Vehicles, ships, planes, factories, phones, kitchen appliances, watches, radios, and on and on. The satellites that support the flow of digital information these devices need in order to function are also totally dependent on electric power. If the electricity does not flow… our world will stop.

What would happen if suddenly all that technology was gone in an instant? What would our world be like then? Could our civilization even remain civil? What would happen to us?

A group of people from a neighborhood located in a Los Angeles suburb are forced to answer that question. They have to work together to survive in this new world that is facing them. Danger threatens them almost immediately, and they realize that staying where they are is not in their best interests. They have to find a safer place.

A member of this newly formed family, Brian Dailey, has a father who owns horse stables in Chino, about forty miles to the east. It’s less populated and they believe it will be safer than staying where they are.

When they arrive, they find things are not quite as safe as they hoped. Brian’s father, Richard, has a plan. He knows of a place they can go that will be safe for their new family, because it will be far away from any big cities, but first, they have to arrange transportation, and he has a plan for that too.

The Journey North
Book 2: The Ripple Effect

The Journey North CoverThe Family has completed what Richard told them was the first part of the journey, they are at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California. Soon after they arrive, Richard explains more of his plan. For the second part of their journey they would be taking a train from the museum to a small town in the California Gold Country, high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, named Jamestown.

Like Perris, it has a railway museum and Richard said he had gotten to know some of the museum folks in Jamestown, through phone calls and emails. It looked perfect. It was far away from any large cities. They should not have the problems with looters and marauders like those that had forced them to flee their homes in search of safety.

First, they had to get the train ready to travel. However, it wasn’t as easy as they hoped. While preparing the train for travel, they soon found Perris was just big enough to have some of the same problems they were escaping from, but they also found more people like themselves who wanted to work together to survive in this new world they found themselves in.

They had to survive marauders and extreme weather, but soon they were on their way north. The departure had come at a high price with the loss of Family members but they had also grown, as others chose to join them.

Their journey north will take them into the Mojave desert, through the mountains, and into the San Joaquin Valley. There are small towns and larger cities that they will have to contend with. Unfortunately, they have little choice on which route they can take to get to Jamestown, and safety. They have to go where the train tracks lead them. Their only goal was to make it north to Jamestown, and security, where they hope to make a new and safe life for themselves far away from the chaos they have seen.
